BACKGROUND...

   Hebron, the first and oldest Jewish city in Israelis, a holy city of Judaism as well as a sacred city for Muslims. Founded about 3,600 years ago, King David ruled from Hebron for seven years as King of Judah before becoming King of Israel in 993 B.C.E. The tombs of Abraham and his family (the progenitors of both Jew and Moslems) are located at the site known as the Cave of the Patriarchs. Both a mosque and a synagogue have been built on top of the cave. 

     Even prior to Israel's 1948-9 War of Independence, Hebron was a dangerous place for Jews to live. During the Arab Riots of August 24, 1929, for example, sixty-seven Jewish residents were butchered, mutilated, beaten, castrated, raped or chased away by their Arab "neighbors." The security for Hebron's Jews after these riots was still very much uncertain for the Arabs could be incited at a moment's notice by their religious leaders to attack Jews. Thus, the years between 1929 and 1948 saw a dwindling of Hebron's five hundred strong Jewish community until finally there were none.

     In 1948-9 the West Bank (including Hebron) was overrun by Jordanian troops during the first Arab-Israeli War... Israel's War of Independence. For the next 19 years all Jews were banned from living anywhere in the West Bank, including Hebron. However during the 1967 Six-Day War, Israeli forces seized Hebron along with the rest of the West Bank. Following the war, several hundred Jewish Israelis settled amid tens of thousands of Palestinians in central Hebron, where Jews had previously lived. Today, the renewed Jewish community in Hebron has flourished and is home to 70 families in three neighborhoods, with over 370 children and 200 yeshiva students studying at Yeshivat Shavei Hevron in Beit Romano. These 700 Jews have settled Hebron, have come back home and are once again walking in the footsteps of Abraham, and of King David. 

     Although Israel has turned over most of Hebron to the Palestinian Authority per the Oslo Agreement [Thank You Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Yossi Beilin!] and Hebron Accords [Thank You Benjamin Netanyahu!], a small number of Israeli troops are maintained in Hebron to guard the vulnerable Jewish settlers and religious sites important to Jews. Tensions has grown between the two groups and Hebron has become a symbol of Israeli-Palestinian hostility over the Jew's right to settle anywhere in the the Jewish Homeland. If Sharon is prepared to sacrifice the Zionist dream in Hebron, and Bethlehem, to achieve temporary quiet and to satisfy the Americans, then he will also abandon. If the Jews have no right to the Biblical city of Hebron, then we have no right to Tel Aviv. Abraham was not buried and did not live and walk on the boardwalk in Tel Aviv.

And now.... the story of Tatiana Soskin.

THE DRAWING...

    On a hot day in June 1997, Tatiana Soskin took her black and white caricature sketch of "Mohamed" and attempted to attach it to an Arab storefront.  Israeli security forces arrested her for attempted vandalism and attempted incitement to riot. She was arraigned and ordered by the judge to be taken to the Beer Ya'akov Mental Hospital for a series of psychiatric exams to be sure that this "Kahanist racist" was mentally fit to stand trial. While there she commented, "I would rather be in a small mental hospital here than to live in the bigger mental hospital that is the State of Israel!"

    Judge Zvi Segal [Left Photo] presided over this case against Tatiana Soskin.  The  young immigrant from the Soviet Union wearing a KACH shirt didn't stand a chance!  In the judge's view she was guilty of incitement, racism and perhaps even endangering world peace!  He even went so far as to compare her childish "pig poster" to the most evil anti-Semitic forgery ever conceived... the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion!"  But young Soskin had no regrets..."I haven't done anything I should be sorry about. I think it's a matter of freedom of speech... how can somebody sit in jail for a drawing?  It's only a drawing!"

   But Judge Segal was not moved nor finished with the 28-year old Hebron resident as he tried to compare her drawings to the atrocities committed by the Nazis!  Tatiana saw her chance and took this opportunity to give the judge a history lesson.  "How can you compare a drawing to the actions of the Nazis and the slaughter of millions of our people?  My motivation was love of Jews. My relatives who perished in the Holocaust would be ashamed to hear what you said!  My grandparents died in the Holocaust but, if they heard this, they would die again!"   In lieu of Judge Segal's disgraceful behavior, many of us are wondering why Judge Segal has never been  required to submit to a series of mental exams as Tatiana was...  to determine if he was fit to be a Jew!

    Tatiana Soskin was the perfect victim.  She is poorly educated, with few friends and with no family in Israel.  There would be no protests in the Western press for this young Russian immigrant.  Even the Jewish lawyers at the A.C.L.U. would be of no use. Besides, if asked, they'd run over to Israel to defend Mohamed, the pig!  And so on January 8, 1998 Tatiana began her two-year sentence.  

    Let it be known that Judge Zvi Segal was not the only Jew who disgraced Israel.  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Arab mayor of Hebron that Tatiana's pig "contradicts the respect and admiration the Jewish religion has for the Islamic religion and its founder [Mohammed]."  Talk about lies and deciet!  No one on the planet believed that pile of pig crap... especially Hebron's Moslems and Natanyahu himself!  One more thing... Netanyahu was remarkably quiet when his Palestinian "peace partners" dressed up a donkey as a Jew!

    What brought Tatiana to draw the picture of this fine "porker" was the ongoing attacks upon Israeli Jews.... specifically upon the Jews in the tiny Hebron community.  For anyone unfamiliar with this community, it is completely surrounded by Arab high ground.  Stabbings, beatings, bombings and murder are never ending threats and a flying bullet passing through a window (or child's head) is an every day worry! This was the backdrop of life in Hebron for Tatiana and the other brave souls of Hebron's besieged Jewish community.  And, as she pointed out in court, "If THIS is what [the Prophet] Mohammed teaches them [the Arabs], then they really DO behave like pigs!"

    We at Masada2000.ORG do NOT consider Tatiana Soskin a racist... unless love for one's own Jewish people above all others is also considered to be racism.  If so, nearly every soul walking the earth would be a racist!  Certainly Moslems are racists for very few, if any, Jews are allowed to live amongst them.  Therefore, we see Tatiana not as a racist... but as a proud Jewish woman in desperate need of drawing lessons.  After all, even a poorly-drawn pig has feelings.

ANOTHER STORY...

THE PIG AND PERSHING!

The story - some call it an urban legend - is told of the American General John "Black Jack" Pershing who was in charge of a U.S. garrison in the Philippines in 1911. Responding to numerous terror attacks by Muslims, Pershing ordered the perpetrators caught, tried and, all except one of them, executed by firing squad.

After making them dig their own graves, the soldiers tied them to the execution posts, then slaughtered a number of pigs in front of them, rubbing the bullets they would use to shoot the terrorists in swine blood and fat. As the legend goes, this terrorized the terrorists, whose Islamic faith taught them that if pigs contaminated their bodies they would go to hell instead of as martyrs to paradise.

Their corpses were buried under the pigs' remains, and the one terrorist who had not been killed was released to tell his fellow mujahedin what he had seen. For the next 50 years, Islamic terrorism was unheard of in those islands.

Was "Black Jack" Pershing the subject of a damning commission of inquiry? Was he disciplined, dismissed?

No, the president apparently promoted him for crushing the terrorist threat.
